The short answer

Loss of income cover is for rideshare and taxi drivers who can’t work because their car is off the road after an accident. With Stallion it applies to accidents that weren’t your fault: you get a replacement vehicle, or where that isn’t possible, a claim for lost income backed by your tax records. It’s different from income protection insurance, which pays if you’re sick or injured.

The real cost of a crash

The repair bill isn’t the only bill.

Bill 1

Days with no fares

Every day in the shop is a day you’re not earning. Repair times depend on the damage and on parts.

Bill 2

Costs that don’t stop

Rent, loan repayments and your phone bill carry on while your car doesn’t.

Bill 3

Waiting on the other side

When the other driver is at fault, their insurer can take time to accept it. You’re the one not working in the meantime.

How it works

From the crash to back earning.

A silver car raised on a workshop hoist with its bonnet open.
  1. Call the club within 48 hours

Give us the other driver’s full name and address. Your car goes to Nationwide Collisions, our repair partner.

  2. The other side accepts fault

We deal with the other driver’s insurer. Once they give a claim number and accept liability, the next step opens up.

  3. You get a replacement vehicle

So you can keep driving while yours is repaired.

  4. Or you claim lost income

Where a replacement vehicle doesn’t apply, send the GST and tax records the club’s legal representatives ask for, so your lost income can be claimed.

When it applies

The plain version of the terms.

It applies when

  • The accident wasn’t your fault
  • The other driver is identified and their insurer accepts liability
  • You lodged the claim within 48 hours
  • You can show your earnings with GST and tax records

It doesn’t apply when

  • You were at fault
  • Fault is still disputed, or the other driver can’t be identified
  • You’re off work because you’re injured or sick
  • The driver was over the legal alcohol limit or affected by drugs

From the Stallion membership terms (clauses 3, 4, 5, 7, 12 and 18). The terms don’t set a fixed daily amount; a claim is based on the records you provide.

Not the same thing

Isn’t this just income protection?

No. They answer different problems, and many drivers could use both.

FAQ

Drivers ask us.

More in the full FAQ.

Q.01How much does loss of income cover pay?

There’s no fixed daily amount in the membership terms. A claim is based on the GST and tax records you provide to the club’s legal representatives.

Q.02Do I get it if the accident was my fault?

No. Loss of income and replacement vehicles apply to accidents that weren’t your fault. If you’re at fault, your car is still repaired, and a $1,200 excess applies.

Q.03Do I get a replacement car and lost income?

The terms describe it as a replacement vehicle, or, where a replacement vehicle doesn’t apply, a lost income claim backed by your records. Ask us how it would work for your car when you enquire.

Q.04Does it cover me if I’m injured?

No. Stallion membership doesn’t cover personal injury. In Victoria, injuries from road accidents are handled by the TAC, and Uber provides injury protection for eligible drivers on a trip.

Q.05What if the other driver won’t admit fault?

The claim is treated as disputed and goes to the club’s legal representatives. Loss of income and a replacement vehicle apply once the other driver’s insurer accepts liability.
